The World Series of Poker is one of the quickest sprints in professional organized sports. The series lasts for over two months, but in the process of that time frame, over sixty bracelets are given out to gamblers who win events at the WSOP.

The series only began less than a week ago, but already there have been some fireworks on the tables. Five tournaments have been completed, and an additional four are bearing the end of their road. Five players have walked away from the tables as champions in 2012.

The first winner was Chiab Saechao of Visalia, California. Saechao earned $70,859 when he won the Event #1 of the WSOP, an employees no-limit tournament with a $500 buy-in. The win allowed Saechao to stay around and participate in a few other WSOP events in the coming weeks. The employees tournament is open to any poker player that works in a casino throughout the world.

Brent Hanks was the winner of Event #2, a No-Limit Hold'em tournament with a $1,500 buy-in. Hanks won $517,725 for his first place finish. The field was over 2,000 players, and Vanessa Selbst became the first woman to finish in the top five this year with her fourth place finish, which was worth $161,345.

Event #3 was a head-up tournament that attracted some of the top names in the game. Annette Obrestad and John Racener both went deep into the tournament, finishing eighth and eleventh, respectively. Leif Force from Tallahassee, Florida, took home the top prize and the bracelet in the heads-up event. Force won $207,708 in an event that held a $3,000 buy-in.

Michael Mizrachi was up to his usual tricks in Event #4, a Seven Card Stud Hi-Low 9 or Better tournament. Mizrachi made a run at another WSOP bracelet, but fell just short, finishing in fifth place. Cory Zeidman from Coral Springs, Florida, walked away with the bracelet and the $201,559 top prize. Chris Bjorin finished in second place, winning $124,838.

Nick Jivkov held off Bryan Pellegrino in Event #5, a Pot-Limit Hold'em tourney. Jivkov won $189,818 for his first place effort, and Pellegrino took home $117,199 for finishing second. Daniel Negreanu gave the fans something to cheer about for most of the tournament, but the popular poker pro bowed out in fifth place, winning just over $41,000.
