　　Popular UK online and offline betting company Ladbrokes announced that it's interested in the takeover of Betdaq, the UK's and Europe's second largest betting exchange.

　　Today renowned United Kingdom based sports betting company Ladbrokes announced that it's in talks with the management of Betdaq regarding the takeover of the company. It's believed that Ladbrokes might only have to pay around ?30 million to complete the acquisition.

　　Ladbrokes issued the following statement earlier today:

　　"[We] enjoy a close commercial co-operation with Betdaq and can confirm discussions regarding a potential future acquisition. Negotiations are ongoing, though at this stage there is no certainty that an agreement will be reached."

　　Betdaq is at this moment the second largest betting exchange in the UK and in Europe. Functioning on a betting exchange model, Betdaq does not offer actual betting services to players. Instead it gives players the possibility to create their own bets and challenge each other. Profits are generated by the company through a small commission charged on each bet.

　　The venture was established 13 years ago in Ireland by Dermot Desmond with the intention of competing against betting exchange Betfair. At this moment Betdaq is the second largest betting exchange on the market but is still overshadowed by Betfair which owns about 90% of the betting exchange market.

　　Ladbrokes is one of the largest UK and European sports betting companies. In the past Ladbrokes failed to secure other takeover deals involving popular gaming companies such as 888 Holdings and Sportingbet. This time however it's believed that the deal with Betdaq will go through.

　　Ladbrokes is believed to be interested in the takeover of Betdaq in order to be able to diversify its service portfolio. At this moment the company is only offering regular sports betting services and is risking losing its market share in case it won't be able to satisfy players' needs.

　　The decision to take over Betdaq was most likely prompted by Betfair's decision to offer regular sports betting services as well. Betfair's move might determine many Ladbrokes players to move over to Betfair unless Ladbrokes finds a solution to offer a more diverse gaming and betting portfolio.
