The United States to join online gambling legalization process

Two additional US states seem to have joined the online gambling legalization process seeing that Nevada and New Jersey are just about to launch real money online poker and online casino games.

The consequences of Nevada legalizing online poker and New Jersey just one day before the adoption of a law that would legalize online casino games are already felt in the US. The US states of California and Massachusetts seem to have restarted their own online gambling legalization processes this week.

In California, Senator Lou Correa has introduced a new bill that intends to legalize online poker. The new bill would empower the California Gambling Control Commission to set up an online poker regulatory framework and award licenses to online poker companies.

Experts believe that California is probably the biggest state in regards to potential online poker traffic and liquidity. If online poker would be legalized in California, a very large number of other states would be determined to follow the lead and also implement similar laws.

At this point however it's still too early to say if the new bill would be adopted, especially considering that multiple similar attempts have failed in the past. Additionally, the state also has another online poker bill active at this moment that was submitted last year by Senator Rod Wright.

The next state that would like to legalize online gambling is Massachusetts. At this moment Massachusetts already has two submitted online gambling legalization bills, one by Senator Jennifer Flanagan and one by Senator Bruce Tarr.

Experts believe that Tarr's bill is the better approach because Flanagan's bill only proposes to allow state lotteries to sell their lottery tickets online along with the possibility of offering games such as keno and scratch cards to residents of the state.

The Tarr bill however proposes to legalize online gambling and allow online casino sites to apply for licenses in the state. At the same time the bill would also protect the interests of state lotteries by giving them certain advantages. The Tarr bill would also empower the state to form liquidity sharing agreements with other states.

Even if these bills won't be successful they clearly point out the mentality shift that happened in the US after it became clear that Nevada and New Jersey would legalize online gambling. While in the past the idea of online gambling was extremely controversial, nowadays more and more states seem to have become more open minded about the issue.
