　　Israeli economist Avichai Snir published a study that claims that the legalization of online sports betting would generate up to 1.2 billion NIS annually from taxation if a 20% tax rate would be employed.

　　The study conducted by Avichai Snir and his team claims that Israeli players spend around 12.5 billion NIS annually on online betting activities despite the fact that all forms of real money online gaming are at this moment illegal in the country. Legalizing online betting would allow the state to cash in substantial tax revenues.

　　The researchers involved in the study explained that they will present the results of their study at the next Sderot Conference on Social Issues. Their goal is to convince Israeli politicians to adopt a more liberal stance towards online gaming and betting and legalize these practices.

　　The researchers also pointed out that legalizing real money online betting would not only generate substantial tax revenues for the state but would also enable the state to protect citizens' from fraudulent betting operators.

　　At this moment online sports betting is not legalized in Israel but due to the nature of the internet citizens are still able to engage in real money gaming activities. Regulating online betting would give players the option to play at legitimate state-approved operators.

　　Another reason to reason to legalize online betting according to the researchers in the fact that most European countries along with multiple other countries on the globe have already taken a similar approach. Countries with a well-established online betting regulatory framework make big money from tax income and are able to adequately protect their citizens.

　　Opponents of real money online gaming claim that legalizing these practices would make them more popular and as such result in more problem gamblers. Many high profile studies have shown that in reality the opposite of this is true.

　　If online betting and even real money online gaming would be legalized in Israel, then the country might become one of the strongest online gaming markets in the Middle East. In fact, it might even become stronger than some European countries with an already working online gaming regulatory framework.
