The Spanish online gaming supervision mechanism will be postponed the launch real money slot machine game

The Spanish online gambling regulator DGOJ announced yesterday that it would not launch real money online slots and exchange betting in the near future. The launch of these products is still planned, however the operator needs more time to evaluate the supposed harmful effects of these games on society.

Online gambling operators licensed in Spain were hoping that the country's regulator would finally decide to launch real money online slots and exchange betting. However, the regulator explained yesterday that these games will only be launched after more studies will be conducted regarding the possible dangers these games would pose to players.

The DGOJ explained that it would soon allow operators to submit their comments regarding the legalization of exchange betting and online slots. This means that it might take a considerable amount of time until a final decision regarding this subject will be taken.

The regulator also pointed out that since September last year the number of Spanish players engaged in online gambling activities has doubled. However the regulator expects a much slower growth from now on due to the fact that the majority of potential players were already recruited by the operators active in the country.

Another piece of information revealed is that beginning May 2013 the regulator would resume accepting license applications from operators. Operators that missed the chance to receive a Spanish license in June 2012 will finally have a new opportunity enter the regulated Spanish market.

Likewise, the DGOJ explained that it intends to cooperate with other national online gambling regulators in Europe with the hopes of establishing a common online gaming regulatory framework. The end goal of this plan is to allow operators licensed in European countries to interlink their national online poker player pools.

The regulator further commented yesterday that at this moment around 250 online gaming websites are blacklisted in the country. However, the regulator also admitted that it doesn't have the necessary tools to block these operators' access to the market.

As a response to the above mentioned statement, licensed Spanish operators argue that the immediate legalization of online slots would almost instantly solve the issue of illegal online casino sites in Spain. These operators believe that at this moment Spanish players are forced to register at illegal online casino sites in case they want to play slots, since legal casino sites are not able to offer these services.
