　　EC APPROVES ITALY'S NEW ONLINE BINGO REGULATIONS

　　The European Commission has just approved the new online bingo regulations Italy intends to implement next month. The new regulations will allow Italian online bingo operators to offer a more diverse portfolio of services.

　　Today the EC gave the green light to the new online bingo regulations Italy has proposed to implement some months ago. This approval will allow the country to go ahead with its intention to allow online bingo operators to offer a wider array of services in the country.

　　The new rules will also allow online bingo operators to offer various bingo jackpots including progressive jackpots. These kinds of services were off limits in the country up until this moment. Bingo rooms will also be able to sell online bingo tickets with as less as just 1 Euro cent per ticket. The maximum price per ticket will be capped at EUR 10.

　　Thankfully the new regulations will not influence online bingo taxes in any way whatsoever. Operators will still have to pay an 11% turnover tax on online bingo revenues as well as never offer an average payout rate below 70% to players.

　　According to these rules, online bingo operators have a considerable advantage compared to land-based operators. Land-based bingo operators are at this moment subjected to a 20% tax on turnover but only have to return 58% of the gathered money to players.

　　It's extremely likely that the country is providing preferential treatment to online bingo operators because the Italian online bingo market has seriously declined in 2012. Stats revealed by the Italian gambling regulator AAMS have revealed that revenues generated from online bingo activities have declined with 34% since 2011.

　　The EC's approval of the new online bingo rules comes after the approval of the country's betting exchange rules this May. This May Italy also regulated its betting exchange market allowing companies such as Betfair to apply for a license. The implementation of these rules took place last month.

　　Italy also plans to regulate online slots this December. At this moment almost all kinds of online casino games are legal and regulated in Italy but online casinos cannot legally offer slots yet. Real money online slots and slots jackpots will be launched next month.
