澳门批准美高梅公司计划新建一个赌场度假村

　　Macau authorities approved MGM's plan to build a second land-based casino in the jurisdiction. MGM will invest approximately $2.5 billion to complete the project.

　　MGM China's plan to build a second casino in Macau was just approved by Macau authorities and as such work related to the new project will begin shortly. MGM revealed that it will invest as much as $2.5 billion in the development of the new casino and entertainment resort.

　　At this moment a total of six casino operators are functioning in Macau among which MGM's arch rivals Wynn Resorts and Las Vegas Sands. At this moment the Macau casino industry generates as much as six times the revenue the Las Vegas Strip does. Most of the mentioned American operators generate more revenues in Macau than at home in the US.

　　MGM explained that it decided to build a new casino with the intention of increasing its market share in Macau and China. It's believed that from now on Macau-based casinos will only be able to increase their revenues if they take over a larger share of the market. This is because the Macau casino market is expected to grow much slowly in the upcoming years.

　　MGM also revealed that its new casino complex will contain more than 500 gaming tables, around 2,500 slot machines as well as 1,600 hotel rooms. The resort will be constructed on a 17.8 acre site located in Macau's high-profile Cotai area. The construction will take up to three years.

　　MGM currently owns 51% of its Chinese subsidiary. MGM China opened its first Macau casino in 2007 which at this moment owns around 10% of the Macau land-based casino market. The new Macau casino will be MGM's first large-scale project since the development of the Las Vegas CityCenter resort in 2009.

　　MGM Resorts is one of the largest American and international casino and entertainment conglomerates. MGM's USA branch recently also applied for an online poker license in Nevada. Late-2012 the Nevada Gaming Commission approved the company's application.

　　Besides dominating the Asian land-casino market, the company is also interested in taking over the US internet poker market once this practice will become legal. For now, the company's online poker operations will be limited to Nevada only.
