  AMAYA GAMING COMPLETES ONGAME TAKEOVER

Canadian gaming tech provider Amaya Gaming has today officially completed the takeover of the Ongame Poker Network from bwin.party digital entertainment when it finalized a payment of €15 million.

Precisely one month ago online gambling technology developer Amaya Gaming has announced that it had managed to reach an agreement with the ownership of bwin.party regarding the takeover of the Ongame Poker Network. Amaya agreed to pay a price of €15 million for the purchase with an additional payment of €10m in case online poker becomes regulated in the US.

Amaya Gaming expressed its interest in the takeover of the Ongame Poker Network this June when US land-based casino equipment developer SHFL Entertainment (then Shuffle Master) abandoned the negotiation tables and withdrew its takeover offer of almost €30 million.

Bwin.party announced earlier this year that it intends to sell the network because after the merger between bwin and Party Gaming the network has lost its purpose. This was because bwin.party decided to merge all the former bwin poker brands with the Party Poker network.

Amaya Gaming explained that it had taken over the network because it wishes to directly compete against various major international gaming software providers and network owners such as Playtech and Microgaming. The first steps to achieve this were the acquisitions of Chartwell Technology and CryptoLogic earlier this year.

Amaya also clearly intends to expand into the US online poker market as soon as online poker will become regulated in the States. The fact the venture owns a working poker network at this moment will make the task of expanding into the US easier.

The Ongame Poker Network is at this moment the fifth largest online poker network on the market. The network is split into an international online poker network that is available in various unregulated markets and various "sub-networks" that operate in regulated markets such as Italy, France and Spain.

At this moment 19 distinct online gambling operators are participating in the network collectively owning 25 distinct online poker skins. Some of the largest operators operating in the Ongame network are Betfair, Betsafe and Betsson.
