　　Renowned betting exchange Betfair appears to be going through a hard period after company CEO Breon Corcoran recently took a series of controversial decisions that resulted in the termination of more than 100 employees.

　　Popular betting exchange Betfair seems to experience major problems after company CEO Breon Corcoran announced recently that the company would cease offering gaming services in unregulated markets. This resulted in the company exiting countries such as Germany, Greece and various Eastern European jurisdictions.

　　Likewise, the company reported that it considers ceasing marketing activities and investment in countries such as Russia and Canada, something that in the long run could even cost as much as 24% revenue loss for the venture. Instead the company would only focus on Western Europe, especially the UK.

　　As part of the above mentioned decisions, the company already laid off around 100 employees and experts believe that this is just the tip of the iceberg. If the company will exit more countries - something that's extremely likely to happen - then many more of the venture's current staff will soon have to seek new job opportunities.

　　Betfair has also recently decided to sell its minority stake in the social gaming business Kabam to Time Warner for a sum of $30 million. Likewise, the company sold its majority stake in the LMAX financial exchange and forex trading business for a sum $4.3 million.

　　It appears that from now on the company will be exclusively focusing on sports betting alone. Besides its regular betting exchange, Betfair also plans to release a normal sports betting product. This is because a survey revealed that the majority of the operators' players also visit other sportsbooks because the lack of enough betting opportunities at Betfair.

　　Despite these developments, Betfair remains to be one of the largest European sports betting operators. Besides sports betting, the company also provides other gaming opportunities such as online poker and online casino gaming. However these gaming portfolios are very small compared to the company's main betting product.
