Belgium announced four does not conform to the normal gaming web standards and gambling

Belgium has added four additional operators and websites to its online gambling backlist. ISPs will be obliged to block citizens' access to the blacklisted websites.

The Belgian Gaming Commission just added four new websites to its online gambling blacklist which are Betwingo.com, Scratchmania.com, Wataro.com and Jeuxcash.rtl.be. Belgian ISPs are bound by the law to block peoples' access to these websites. The new additions increase the number of blacklisted sites to 64.

The sites in question were blacklisted and banned because they refused to apply for a Belgian online gambling license. Other prominent companies on the blacklist are the companies 888.com and Betfair and until just reverently bwin.party digital entertainment as well.

Not so long ago bwin.party managed to get itself removed from the Belgian blacklist by agreeing to form a revenue share partnership with a Belgian land based casino. This partnership allows the company to apply for an online gambling license in the country.

Belgium's online gambling regulatory framework was developed with the intention of protecting the business interests of Belgian land-based casinos. This is achieved through only allowing Belgian land-casinos or online casinos that form a partnership with such land-casinos to apply for a license.

Implementing such measures is however against the rules and laws of the European Union. According to EU law, member states are not allowed to offer preferential treatment and an unfair advantage to domestic companies. These rules are also valid on online gambling as well.

However Belgium completely ignores these rules knowing that it's extremely unlikely that the European Commission will do something against countries that breach EU law with their national online gambling laws. Since online gambling is not a mainstream activity, the EC allows countries such as Belgium to get away with breaching EU regulations.

Many companies that at this moment are blacklisted in Belgium have this status because they simply weren't able to find a suitable land-based casino partner that would help them to obtain a license. So in reality, companies such as 888 and Betfair have in fact not done anything illegal, they simply weren't even able to apply for a license.
